The older we get, the more concerned we are about our health. We all want to stay young forever, but there is no way that we can fight the inevitable aging. With aging, we are now more concerned than ever in what goes into our bodies. The quest for good nutrition becomes endless. There are a lot of sites or books that claim the foods that may rival the fountain of youth. Are there any truths to them? Most likely they are not. Aging is a part of nature; it is a part of our life cycle. The best approach to aging is to face it calmly and courageously, and to eat good and healthy to help keep the body in good shape.
Just how different is geriatric nutrition from that of the child or the adult? A lot of difference. The aging body has more difficulty in processing foods, especially those high cholesterol, oily junk foods that young people love to indulge in.
Good nutrition includes foods high in antioxidants like tuna. It is better to eat foods that are fresh as they are better for the body. Try to avoid processed meats as these may contain toxins that young bodies can flush out, but geriatric bodies cannot. So try to stay away from eating too much pizza. The geriatric body will react quickly against the spices and the oils and the processed meats and cheeses. Although, having pizza once in a while is okay, just be prepared for the consequences.
Nutrition, when we get old, still invokes the same principle: good nutrition equates to a healthy body. Eat more fruits and vegetables, more fresh fish, and less of the meats. Remember, we are getting older, so our digestive processes are getting old too. There is only so much that the body can process and it is best to keep it in a condition that does not traumatize it.
